Moss, born 13 February 1977, is a former American football player. He was a
player in the National Football League (NFL) for 14 seasons , including the
Minnesota Vikings, Oakland Raiders, New England Patriots, Tennessee Titans, and
the San Francisco 49ers. He is widely recognized as Jerry Rice's most
outstanding wide receiver. He holds the NFL single-season record for touchdown
receptions of 23 in 2007 the NFL rookie single-season touchdown record (17 in
1998), and is second on the all-time NFL regular season touchdown reception
list with 156. Moss was well-known for his ability to secure a the contested
catch, and "mossed" is now a term used in football. Moss began his
career as a studio analyst for ESPN's Sunday NFL Countdown and Tuesday Night
Countdown shows. Moss was born at Rand, West Virginia. He was a student at
DuPont High School, one of two schools eventually merged into Riverside High
School, where he was a star in football, basketball, baseball, and track. Randy
was also a member of the school’s debate team. Moss was the captain of the
DuPont Panthers football team to two consecutive state championships in 1992,
1993. The position he excelled at was wide receiver. However, Moss also played
free safety in punted kickoffs, as well as was the team's punter and kicker. He
was awarded the Kennedy Award for West Virginia Football Player's of the Year
in the year 1994. Parade magazine named him to their All-American high school
football teams in the year 1995. In 2009 they named him as one of the 50
greatest high-school football players of all-time.
